The system produced torrential rain that flooded many areas of SE QLD and Northern NSW, devastating winds and smashing surf to the extent that at Snapper Rocks from Friday morning to late Sunday afternoon there was no-one in the water surfing ~ on our favorite walk around Snapper Rocks the boulders that form part of the breakwall had been tossed around like pebbles ~ the beach erosion is like nothing I've seen ~ perhaps once in a lifetime!

The following is the weather warning issued late on 24 May 2009:

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Abnormally High Tides and Dangerous Surf
For people in coastal parts of the Southeast Coast forecast district and Fraser
Island.
Issued at 4:40 pm on Sunday 24 May 2009

Synoptic Situation:
A low pressure system is located well east of the Queensland coast and is moving
further away. A strong high pressure system is located in the southern Tasman
Sea. The combination of these two systems is producing fresh to strong E/SE
winds and large swells along the southern Queensland coast.

Large waves and dangerous beach conditions will continue about exposed beaches
between Sandy Cape and the NSW/Queensland border during Sunday. Water levels on
exposed beaches will again exceed the highest tide of the year on tonight's high
tide with further beach erosion.

These waves will gradually ease overnight and during Monday.
