Snapper Review Week Ending 16 Jan 2010

It’s been a pretty idyllic summer conditions this week on the coast, blue skies, hot days and predominantly offshore winds. OK so the waves haven’t been great but at least there has been some. There have been waves around the 2ft mark over the last week as opposed to the 1 ft.

Sunday the 10th was the pick of the bunch with both Snapper and Kirra boardriders making the most of the conditions – it was a day of pretty hot surfing with more than a few WCT, WQS and Pro Junior surfers plus heaps of up and coming grommets out in the water making the most of the punchy conditions.

Today the 16th is an absolute stunner, hot, light winds, blue skies and the water is simply awesome (just such a shame there are nooooooo waves!), great day for creating seascapes.

Unfortunately it’s been a pretty tragic fortnight on the coast. Idylic summer conditions bring bucket loads of people out onto the beaches and even though the conditions look great the risks out in the water are significant. There have been 3 drownings on the coast in the last 2 weeks and I can’t even begin to imagine how many rescues have been carried out.

I can only add my voice to growing campaign, please if you are heading to the beach only go out in conditions you are capable of handling and swim between the flags, its just not worth the risk. Bit of downer to finish on this week but it’s an important message as people don’t need to drown on our beaches.
